The department of mechanical engineering philosophy combines an emphasis on creativity, technology, manufacturing and design methodology with a concern for human values and the needs of society. The department is continuously striving to achieve excellence in education, academic and industrial research.
The department aims to provide the students with a perfect blend of intellectual and practical experiences, that helps them to serve our society and address a variety of needs. The department plans academic courses and projects to endow students with the ability to apply knowledge of science, mathematics, and engineering, and the capability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, providing leadership and technical expertise. Research topics focus on industrial needs. The department is vibrant with several activities round the year.
The department has state of the art infrastructure, classroom, library, modern laboratories and amenities with ample facilities in carrying out practical classes as per academic curriculum. The laboratories cater to the needs of students in executing their academic and research projects, as well as other related research and consultancy services. Both undergraduates and postgraduates are well placed in leading industries as well as in reputed research institutions of international recognition.

Computer Aided Machine Drawing Laboratory
Objective:
- To make the students understand and interpret drawings of machine components so as to prepare assembly drawings either manually and using standard CAD packages.
- To familiarize the students with Indian Standards on drawing practices and standard components.
CAD / CAM Lab
Objective:
- To be able to understand and handle design problems in a systematic manner.
- To gain practical experience in handling 2D drafting and 3D modeling software systems.
- To be able to apply CAD in real life applications.
- To understand the concepts G and M codes and manual part programming.
- To expose students to modern control systems.
- To know the application of various CNC machines.
- To expose students to modern CNC application machines EDM, EDM wire cut and Rapid Prototyping.
CNC Machines Lab
Objective:
- To understand the basic concepts of computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool and CNC programming.
- The lab has production model CNC lathe and CNC milling machines with CAM simulation software and robot support systems.
Dynamics and Vibration Lab
Objective:
- To supplement the principles learnt in Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery.
- To understand how certain measuring devices are used for dynamic testing.
Fluid Mechanics and Machinery Lab
Objective:
- The student is introduced to the mechanics of fluids through a thorough understanding of the properties of fluids.
- The applications of conservation laws to flow through pipes and hydraulic machines are studied.
Strength of Materials Lab
Objective:
- To supplement the theoretical knowledge gained in Mechanics of Solids with practical testing for determining the strength of materials under externally applied loads.
Mechatronics Laboratory
Objective:
- To understand the interdisciplinary applications of electronics, electrical, mechanical and computer systems for the control of mechanical and electronic systems.
Engineering Practice Lab
Objective:
- This lab is equipped with different shops.
- Fitting and Carpentry shop is equipped with various fitting and carpentry devices and tools.
- Smithy Shop is equipped with charcoal fired furnaces, power hammers, anvils and different types of supporting tools.
- Foundry shop has moulding and casting tools and accessories.
- Welding shop has arc welding and gas welding equipments with fitting and bench grinding machines.
